Too many volunteers

Is anyone else experiencing a flood of volunteers?  Our roles are very specific and require a lot of training and induction so how do we filter applicants appropriately within the time constraints of already very busy management roles to ensure we are recuiting those who are serious applicants?  Suggestions welcome.

Do you have very clear role descriptions and person specifications allowing people to self deselect if they can see they are not a match? And do you have open and closed seasons when for example you announce that you are currently not recruiting for certain roles?

There will always be some organisations and some roles that are more flooded than others that is just the way it is. Do you have good relations with other local volunteer involving organisations to whom you can refer those potential volunteers that you don't have a role for at the moment?
