New to Volunteer Management

I am new to Volunteer Management, I have been involved in interviewing our first two potential volunteers. Both candidates past their interviews, CV's were fine, awaiting outcomes of CRB checks as we work with vulnerable people. Creating appropriate Induction Programme and Training Programme, volunteer contracts, daily expenses trying to find out the legal implications for people volunteering and for the organisation recruiting volunteers etc Have just found your website and signed up; have also found volunteer magnet will read and hopefully gain the knowledge we require regarding effective recruiting and retaining of volunteers for our relatively new charity. How to retain volunteers and keep them motivated has been worrying me, hoping the website will help with this as well! What we need is a small pool of dedicated; committed volunteers, whom we can train and supervise to become competent in our field and eventually become future professional workers in the field (Capacity Building). When this was proposed it sounded relatively straightforward... but as with all things we are finding that this is not the case. I went on an Inland Revenue Training course the other week and found out there lots of pitfalls that we were unaware of...so back to the drawing board to consider all the issues and possible issues we were unaware of before...
