Investing in Volunteers (IiV)

I'm in the process of writing a positioning paper on Investing in Volunteers (IiV) for my Charity. I am interested in finding out other people's views on IiV. Looking at the role of honour on the IiV website it seems that they are all small charities or branches of larger charities. Why is this I wonder and why haven't larger charities so far signed up to the standard? Is this due to the cost perhaps?

I head volunteering at a national charity and recently explored the the possibility of the IIV standard. Having previously gone through the process and achieving the standard at a small local charity previous to this job I found it useful and worthwile. The quote I received for my current organisation exceeded £10,000 after VAT. I found it very difficult to divert funds from volunteer training to spend on IIV so cost is definately the reason why its on hold at the moment.

Thank you for drawing my attention to the Investing in Volunteers website. I will have a look and see what it is all about. If there is a monetary cost, then it is difficult to implement and perhaps this will mean that charities will adapt ideas and have their own individual ways of recognising and investing in their volunteer teams.
