Great resources for managing dyslexia

Jul

Morning everyone, I have recently come across some really good resources for managing, living and working with dyslexia which i wanted to share with you all. These include a brilliant film featuring students taking about how they manage their impairment and the strategies they use to overcome some of the barriers they face. A highly recommended watch. Shout out - guidelines on working with 'small' volunteer involving groups, anyone?

Jan
21

The Experts in Volunteering Project plans to offer capacity building work to more 'small' London organisations that engage volunteers, or are indeed completely run by volunteers and may not be hooked up with useful local networks and VCs. One of our VC good practice partners is thinking about compiling some guidelines for outreach and working with such groups.
Not wishing to re-invent the wheel, we're wondering if guidelines already exist somewhere? Tips on what works and what doesn't?

NHS VMS's are surely some of the best organised Volunteer Managers in the country, so they are all being invited to a meeting at University College Hospital London to see how they can sign up and get lots of "Brownie points" for very little work!

E-mail lesley.borzoni@uclh.nhs.uk for details

Volunteer Policy

May

Does anybody out there have some examples of good and bad volunteer policies?  I can write some but I thought if there are some I could use (for a training workshop) then it would save me a lot of time.

writing a policy

May
25

things to think about when writing a volunteers policy within your organisation:

 - who has written the rest of the organsiations policies - perhaps with your help they should be the person writing the volunteer policy?

- if you are writing it make sure it is in a similar style to other policies in the organisation so that there is congruence

- make sure that representatives from within the organisation who engage with volunteers are consulted at every stage to ensure ownership and buy in of the policy
