Deconstructing Capacity Builders

By Yellow Page - Posted on 17 July 2007

Capacity Builders are deconstructing themselves. What was six (hubs):

# financing voluntary and community sector activity;
# governance;
# information and communication technologies;
# performance;
# volunteering; and
# workforce development

Has after getting in a consultant become four (strategic themes):

1) Finance and Resources
2) Performance
3) People and Skills
4) Voice

To quote Capacity Builders:

"The proposed Workforce strategic theme is to be re-named 'People and Skills', with the modernisation of volunteering effectively comprising a major investment programme within that theme."

Justin Davis-Smith, Acting Chief Executive of Volunteering England, said in response:

"Volunteering England is very disappointed that Capacitybuilders appears to have ignored the voice of the volunteering sector by not reinstating volunteering as a national strategic lead.

"Many organisations and individuals came together to lobby for recognition of the unique nature of volunteering at the heart of the third sector, and we maintain that volunteering will be marginalised and undervalued through the absence of a strategic voice.
