To blog or not to blog

Hi all

Upon my return to the UK voluntary sector having spent some time volunteering abroad I thought i'd take some time to read some of the blogs set up by people commenting on volunteering, volunteer management etc.

I honestly did not know where to start - it seems everyone is writing a blog nowadays! I have thoroughly enjoyed reading many of these from esteemed people, some of whom I have met and some I am yet to meet. Some I read regularly and others I look at ocassionally when not writing forum posts during my lunch break...

Are there too many 'volunteering' related blogs out there now? Firstly I would say that if I was to read all of these avidly then there would be little time to do anything other than that! Secondly, so many people are saying the same things in their blogs! We talk often (formally and informally) about strengthening volunteer management/development as a profession whilst at the same time setting up blogs that talk about our own personal views independent of the organisations we may represent and the roles we hold. Would an even stronger 'volunteerism' culture be created if individuals got together in a choir if they are already singing from the same hymn sheet so to speak! Or do all of us as current or future 'volunteering consultants' needs this form of social media to sell our skills, experience and views in a ever competitive environment?

Just some musings really - if i ever do set up a blog hope you'll all tune in for more!

Thanks
