AVM's first AGM - 23rd September 2008The Association of Volunteer Managers is holding its first AGM on Tuesday 23rd September at Scope. The profile of volunteer management has never been as high. Riding on the crest of the volunteering policy agenda, it has its own ‘Action Group’ as part of the Commission on the Future of Volunteering’s continuation work, and the Office of the Third Sector is currently developing its plans for how to spend the £4million it has committed to training volunteer managers and volunteers. Open to both members and non-members, the AGM will be your chance to hear from both Volunteering England and the Office of the Third Sector on how they see volunteer management developing. You will also help shape and influence part of the National Support Service to modernise volunteering, funded by CapacityBuilders. This work aims to help organisations engage a greater diversity of volunteers and develop sustainable ways of working. Red Foundation is leading on a strand of work that is exploring new ways to involve and work with volunteers and will be seeking your views on the potential that social networking has in engaging and supporting volunteers and volunteer managers. It is vital that you take this opportunity to influence how this develops. Todays AGM and more...
Today was so much more exciting then your typical AGM. I know as a Director I should be thanking myself, but as I had little to do with the organisation I wanted to say thank you to my fellow directors and Red for making us think about new tools available to us as VMs. I also think it was refreshing to hear much of what Justin from VE said echoing so much of what AVM says. I think the agenda with having John from OTS on last was inspirational at keeping people hooked. Well done and thanks to all.
One of the things that struck me in the focus group was that we have so many people who are registered users, but few who are active members. One said that he doesn't know how to join? I think this website has so much potential for what was discussed about social networks today... so much to do with so few... but we will get there!
